The Gourmet 35 captured momentum heading in to 2013 with an ‘Animal Pack’, has shown promise in forthcoming rainbow cork and an almost feathery leather on the Black Scale collaboration, and today unleashes a dazzling duo that look like they could have been conceived in conjunction with frequent Converse partner Missoni with the lux zig-zag textile material in two colorways. One Nike LeBron X Low colorway gets liberated today at retail and another one on the horizon rears its head. The pair shown has a silvery look across its upper, one that gets boosted by plenty of teal sectioning through the accents. The shoes of course have the speckle happening on the midsole, a little detail that seems to a permanent one for this iteration of LeBron’s line. Over the past six months-plus, the Nike Roshe Run rose from overlooked to resurgent sleeper hit to word of mouth phenomenon to one of the hottest sneakers on the market. The possibilities are endless in terms of color combinations and now patterns that can be applied to the minimalist silhouette, and in this context, the colorway pictured above is almost more of a ‘when’ than ‘if’. Tie-dye on the Rosherun makes for a summery burst of color that might also remind you of a delicious summer sno cone treat. There’s another new model in the mix for Jordan Brand’s July 2013 set up: the Jordan Flight Origin. The model brings an Air bubble onto the back end of the sneakers, a little touch that’s been missing from the catalog at large for a minute now. The colorways that the sneaker will debut in are very Air Jordan IV leaning, with both a “Bred” and a “Green Glow” in the mix. Solebox is celebrating the natural world this spring with a couple of collaborations. We just saw the ‘Lucanid’ Saucony Shadow 5000s coming up for june, and today’s May flowers come in the form of a tribute to the red-breasted blackbird. The Solebox x Reebok Classic Leather ‘Sturnella Militaris’ revisits the front/back split we’ve seen on a few of these 30th anniversary CL collaborations, combining Carotene suede with black leather plus a plush sockliner that furthers the aviary theme. Yet another action-packed week in Sneaker News! Kanye West rocked the red Yeezy 2, which sparked a long discussion on a potential release. The Nike LeBron XI was leaked by LeBron’s main man Maverick Carter, while the energetic “Meteorology” colorway of the Nike KD VI sparked some interesting comments. Some new Air Jordan Retro colorways like the red suede Air Jordan VI and red tongue Air Jordan IV had the Retro category booming, as did the crazy NFL-inspired Air Trainers like the “Bo Knows” joints. A funky lifestyle version of the Kobe 8 popped up this week, which the Nike Hyperdunk 2013 was officially unveiled by Nike. A strange “Asteroid Gradient” colorway of the Foamposite coerced some humorous responses, while the “Watermelon” versions of the SB Dunk Mid and LeBron X Low reminded us that the Summer vacation season is just around the corner.
The NBA moved to the Conference Finals round, with LeBron sporting a new PE of the Elite X, while his off-the-court showing in last year’s low-top Air Jordan XI garnered some praise. Nike officially unveiled the “Ballistic Pack” of Dunk (regular and Hyper), while a “hologram” Air Force 1 and some samples of the new ostrich materials kept the Air Force 1 category booming. Flyknits were hot again, with several Chukka colorways getting previewed for a release (near and far in the future). Saucony and Solebox hook up again with “The Lucanid”, Reebok impresses with the help of SNS and Packer Shoes, Yohji Yamamoto gives a classic adidas design some punch, and Vans unveils this year’s charitable collection of Pendleton x Nibwaakaawin. Lux streetwear brand Comme des Garcons teams up with Converse and the Pro Leather, while Puma’s basic heritage models gave the seldom talked-about brand some love. Customs were huge as well, with a clean Kanye-meets-MJ logo leading the way. Who better to give us a retrospective on the Nike Air Max lineage than a UK shop? The Brits have always been a bit more bubble-bound than us, so we’re happy to see that the AM stalwarts at Size? have dug up some history for us for the current Nike Air Max Reinvented series. Included are a gang of vintage ads from the time when visible Air was the new kid on the block as far as Nike tech. Coinciding with that piece, they’re also launching an Instagram contest wherein you’re eligible to win a trip to a “top European city” to attend an Air Max celebration event put on by Nike. Tomorrow, Nike Sportswear will honor one of its greatest athletes by releasing the iconic Air Trainer Max ’91 in a “Raiders” colorway. Accented by a full-reflective upper and a cracked concrete graphic on the midsoles, this Air Trainer Max ’91 captures that aggressive stance that Bo Jackson always had when he stepped on the turf.
