NIKE BLAZER HIGH The Nike Blazer High is one of Nike’s oldest designs, and one of their first basketball sneakers after making the transition from offering strictly runners. The sneaker debuted in 1972 and was worn perhaps most famously by George Gervin. The Nike Blazer High is a frequent Retro model as well, having countless releases under the Nike Sportswear and Nike SB lines in current times.

The Nike Blazer High Suede VNTG debuted tonal nylon tongues late last year, a shift from the Sail default since the series’ 2009 inception that leaves these new designs looking more like modern classics than true OGs. Nike Sportswear has four new pairs of these on the way for Q2, all of them cast in colors strikingly similar to earlier releases, it’s easy to see the huge impact that tongue really makes. Grey, purple and yellow pairs revisit a trio of 2010 releases, while the green is an update to one of the initial trio of Vintage Blazer Highs. Let us know if this new makeup beats the old style and pre-order your pair before they ship from End in April.

Since the series launched in early 2009, Nike Sportswear’s Vintage Blazers have almost exclusively come in suede uppers to match the rustic look of their oxidized, pre-yellowed soles. The color code for just about every pair has been ‘xxxxx/Sail’, with the off-white shade serving as an antiqued anchor that brings the classic look home, but this latest duo manages to flip the script while still maintaining the VNTG Blazer essence. And with these two new Nike Blazer High VNTG Premium releases, Size? has now authored double as many leather pairs as NSW themselves, these latest pairs a follow-up to last November’s successful two-pack. These will be limited to 500 pairs each, with the green-Swooshed edition arriving online on Monday, February 20th and the purple pair coming up later this year.

Most sneakerheads, given three wishes, would almost certainly pick at least one of their holy grails, and since you’re not allowed to ask for more wishes, here’s another way of taking that theme meta. Sneaker customizer and Blazer loyalist JBF is back with his latest take on the most classic of Nike Basketball silhouettes, this new Nike Blazer High ’Jafar’ custom inspired by the villain from Disney’s 1992 animated feature Aladdin. There’s no Glibert Gottfried soundbites in the background, but the red suede, black leather and snakeskin Swooshes do indeed capture the feel of an evil villain who’s probably spent too much time out in the desert sun. In our recent look at the ‘Gorge Green’ Nike Blazer High VNTG release, we noted that the unfinished nylon tongue is now a tonal match to the suede uppers for the first time in the series’ three years. Regular Sneaker News readers will know that’s not the only bit of fresh news regarding nylon on the Vintage Blazer, as this new Electrolime edition makes three after our preview of red and blue pairs back at the start of the month. With these, we’re instantly reminded of the variety of nylon Dunks we got in 2009 in what turned out to be a fond farewell to the Vandal as a regular part of the NSW core lineup, but perhaps these satiny Blazer Highs can fill the gap while we wait for new colorways on that strapped classic. Click through to see more of how Electrolime looks on ballistic nylon instead of the Foamposite material on which it’s been featured most prominently of late, and pre-order your pair of this February 2012 release right now with End.

Since its debut in early 2009, the Nike Blazer High VNTG has followed a simple recipe: start with slightly distressed suede to the upper, add Sail on the laces, unfinished tongue, heel tab, Swoosh and sole, then apply a slight yellowing to the last of those parts to achieve a pre-oxidized look. It’s a can’t-miss combination that can be replicated across a huge range of earthy and otherwise rustic shades, so what happens when Nike Sportswear makes a subtle shift and changes one fo these key components? If anything, the new Vintage Blazers are even better now with the classic rough-around-the-edges tongue now coming in a tonal nylon compliment to the suede shade, this new Gorge Green edition a sign of good things to come that’s available now at select NSW retailers like Wish.

It seems like the vast majority of Nike Blazer High Suede releases in recent years have also come with VNTG in their title, but here’s a case where we’re not getting the pre-yellowed sole or rough-edged nylon tongue. And judging by how nice the finished tonal navy tongue and lining look on this pair, that change might well prove to be another well-loved look for fans of this classic basketball shoe. The grey heel badge on this pair makes obligatory some kind of New York Yankees reference, but the truth is that navy is one of the most versatile colors this side of the earth tones, and they’d match a wide variety of gear, no matter your which is your favorite team. Check them out in greater detail after the jump and start your spring training before everyone else thanks to a pre-order on the January 2012 shipment from End.

To this point in history, the vast majority of Nike Blazer High VNTG releases have been cast in a single color of suede with a Sail Swoosh and sole, notable exceptions the most recent pack of Quickstrikes and the two two-packs of leather releases, one of which just dropped about ten days ago. So with that recent Size?-exclusive pack having followed shortly after the mixup QSes, it’s a good time to shake the series to its very core and introduce a brand new material. Actually, it’s not entirely new, because each and every pair of Vintage Blazers has come with a nylon tongue, but these do indeed mark the first time we’ll see them done with nylon uppers. The bold red and blue uppers remind us that it’s been a little while since we’ve seen a nylon Blazer of any kind after this and several other Nike Sportswear models had us calling 2009 the ‘year of nylon’. Click through and you’ll be able to see both pairs in greater detail, then head over to End to pre-order these January releases today.
