A little over two years ago, Sneaker News readers got their first look at themed Nike Air Max 1 schematics by graphic artist Matt Stevens. Matt’s Air Max 1-A-Days started as an online project, saw its first exhibition upon Schuh-You’s Afew reopening last summer and clinched a Kickstarter goal soon after that wound up with these delightful takes on the original Air Max runner bound in a hard cover. A short while after the MAX100 book hit came off the presses, we got our first glimpse at what might happen were Steven’s sketches to be made into actual AM1s.
Dusseldorf, Germany has been central to the expansion of this project, but it’s Stevens’ home town of Charlotte, North Carolina that sees its top-tier Nike Sportswear retailer step up to push the envelope even further. Social Status’ southern location will help to bring ten different designs to realization, the first five of which you’ll see in greater detail after the jump below. Proceeds from the auctions on these limited editions will benefit Charlotte-area charities, and Sneaker News will bring you the second half along with more details on availability shortly.

In 2011, Matt Stevens created the MAX100 Book Project – a high-end book that contained one-hundred different interpretations of the Air Max 1. Each of the 100 designs were astoundingly distinguished, using an interesting collection of inspirations like the speedy yellow and black of a New York City taxicab and the marbled red and white of a rib-eye steak. The first MAX100 design came to life when Matt collaborated with Afew in late 2011 for a limited edition release that featured the MAX100 wallpaper insole, but in September, ten of these amazing designs will come to life in a unique charity-driven auction in conjunction with Social Status. Each of the ten selected designs will be composed via the Nike iD program and feature its own distinct custom insole, and will be accompanied by a signed copy of the MAX100 book. A custom wooden box with laser engravings and metal plates signifying the true ’1-of-1′ nature and the name of the design will house these amazing productions as well. The proceeds from these auctions will benefit local charities in the Charleston, NC area, where Social Status is situated. Stay with Sneaker News for more updates on this exciting collaboration and take a look at the ten selected designs below!
